National team forward Bharat Khawas will be wearing the Nepal Police
Club jersey for the lat time on Saturday when the Nepali league champion
and British Gurkha Cup winner takes on Indian giant McDowells Mohan
Bagan Club.
Khawas left NPC after he could not qualify for the post of assistant sub-inspector in Nepal Police in two weeks ago.
However, Khawas wants to make his last appearance in NPC jersey a memorable one. “Playing against Mohun Bagan, one of the famous clubs of the sub-continent is like a dream come true. Though I have left NPC, I’m getting a last chance to adorn the club jersey. It is a double delight for me,” said Khawas.
Khawas had signed a one and half years contract with NPC. “Saturday’s friendly match would be an opportunity for me to thank NPC and its coach Birat Krishna Shrestha. It could als be an opportunity to remember fond memories I had with the club and teammates,” said Khawas.
Khawas was important member of NPC when it completed a title hat-trick in the Martyrs Memorial A Division League last season. He had scored 14 goals in the league. Khawas was adjudged the best forward when NPC won the National League.
Khawas is attending a closed-camp training for the Nepali U-22 team that is to participate in the AFC U-22 Asia Cup Qualifiers to be held in Kathmandu from June 2 to 10.
NPC has asked All Nepal Football Association to provide Mega three Star Club players Santosh Sahukhala, Kiran Chemjong, Sandeep Rai and Biraj Maharjan along with Khawas for the friendly match as some of its vital players sustained injuries during the British Gurkha Cup and recently concluded AFC President’s Cup Qualifiers.
